The Belfry Hotel and Resort

Rely on Fire Check were appointed to provide specialist fire and life safety consultancy services in support of SES Engineering Services for the expansion of The Belfry Hotel & Resort in Sutton Coldfield, working alongside main contractor VINCI Building UK on this £80 million development.

The appointment included the technical review of subcontractor-produced design information for the life safety systems, ensuring full compliance with the relevant British Standards, project specifications and the overarching fire strategy. This early-stage technical assurance identified potential design shortfalls, coordination risks and opportunities for improvement, supporting the development of robust, buildable and fully compliant system solutions and promoting a right-first-time approach to delivery.

Rely on Fire Check also provided on-site installation support throughout the construction phase. This included regular site visits to verify that installations were being completed in accordance with the approved design information, manufacturers’ recommendations employers’ requirements, and British Standards alongside the provision of technical guidance to proactively resolve issues as they arose. This approach reduced the risk of abortive works, protected programme and ensured consistent installation quality across the project.

In addition, Rely on Fire Check undertook detailed reviews of commissioning documentation to confirm that all systems were tested and commissioned in line with the applicable standards. This included a high-level technical review of the aspirating smoke detection systems installed within the development, providing enhanced assurance of system performance within this high-occupancy hotel and events environment.
