Surrey Police Headquarters at Mount Browne

Fire and life safety design review and detailed design for a phased police headquarters redevelopment.

Our scope of services

Rely on Fire Check were appointed to provide specialist fire life safety consultancy and detailed design services for the phased redevelopment of the Surrey Police Headquarters at Mount Browne, Guildford, working alongside Wates Construction and the wider project team.

The initial scope involved the technical review of consultant-produced design information at RIBA Stage 2 and Stage 3 across multiple operational buildings, including control room facilities, forensic spaces, training areas, energy infrastructure and accommodation blocks. These reviews identified technical risks, compliance considerations and opportunities for optimisation, supported by annotated drawings and structured observations and recommendations reports to inform the progression into detailed design.

Drawing on their extensive industry knowledge, technical expertise and operational experience, Rely on Fire Check provided targeted guidance on the selection and specification of life safety system equipment more suited to the unique demands of a critical policing environment. This ensured system performance, resilience and maintainability were aligned with the nature of the site and its high-reliability operational requirements.

Following the early-stage reviews, Rely on Fire Check were appointed to complete the detailed RIBA Stage 4i design of the Fire Detection & Fire Alarm and Emergency Voice Communication systems for the Dog School, Dog School Accommodation and Sports Pavilion Building. These coordinated, procurement-ready design packages enabled accurate subcontractor pricing and supported efficient progression into the construction phase of the project.
