Rely on Fire Check were appointed to provide specialist fire and life safety consultancy services in support of SES Engineering Services for the new West Yorkshire Police District Headquarters development in Kirklees, delivered alongside main contractor Willmott Dixon.

As part of the appointment, Rely on Fire Check produced comprehensive Life Safety System Design Guides for the Fire Detection & Fire Alarm and Emergency Voice Communication systems. These documents clearly defined all project and employer requirements, system performance criteria, installation and commissioning responsibilities, and the full suite of certification and compliance documentation required to meet the relevant British Standards.

The Design Guides were issued to the appointed subcontractors as the technical basis for their detailed design development, ensuring that all subcontractor design packages were fully aligned with the project requirements from the outset. This structured approach promoted a right-first-time delivery strategy, reducing design ambiguity, minimising rework and ensuring consistent compliance across the project.

Rely on Fire Check also supported SES Engineering Services through the procurement and design assurance process. This included tender analysis of subcontractor quotations to benchmark technical compliance and value, followed by detailed technical reviews of subcontractor design submissions to identify shortfalls, coordination issues and areas of non-compliance, with clear guidance provided to achieve fully compliant final designs.

In addition, Rely on Fire Check carried out site visits in collaboration with SES Engineering Services to review installation progress, verify compliance with the approved design information and provide ongoing technical support. These visits enabled early identification of issues, supported programme delivery and ensured the life safety systems were installed and commissioned in line with both the project requirements and British Standards.
