Crown Square Redevelopment – Block 1 (Marriott Hotel)

Life safety design and Gateway 2 support for a higher-risk Marriott hotel development.

Our scope of services

Rely on Fire Check were appointed by SES Engineering Services at PCSA stage to provide specialist life safety design and consultancy services for Block 1 of the Crown Square Redevelopment (Gresham Street), comprising the proposed Marriott hotel development in Middlesbrough.

The appointment was undertaken to support SES Engineering Services through the Gateway 2 submission process, with a focus on early-stage risk mitigation, British Standards compliance and the development of robust, buildable electrotechnical life safety solutions appropriate to a Higher-Risk Building (HRB) environment.

Rely on Fire Check carried out a detailed review of the consultant-produced indicative design for the Fire Detection & Fire Alarm and Emergency Voice Communication systems. This included annotated design drawings,

and the production of a structured observations and recommendations report to identify areas of risk, ambiguity and opportunity, supporting the development of compliant and best-value solutions and informing early subcontractor profiling.

In parallel with the design review, Rely on Fire Check undertook the electrotechnical life safety system design for the hotel development. Particular focus was placed on aligning the life safety systems with Marriott brand standards and employer requirements, ensuring that the final design met both compliance obligations and the specific operational, performance and brand expectations associated with an international hotel environment, while remaining fully aligned with the developing fire strategy and Gateway 2 requirements.
