We reside in a world where the fire safety systems that protect our buildings and the people within them are increasingly complex and ever-changing.
Evidence resulting from post-fire investigations has demonstrated that traditional methods for the compliance management and maintenance of fire safety systems cannot be relied upon to safeguard the safety of our people and protect our property from fire.
The Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety was led by Dame Judith Hackitt.
Its purpose was to make recommendations that will ensure we have a sufficiently robust regulatory system for the future and to provide further assurance to residents that the complete system is working to ensure the buildings they live in are safe and remain so.
It examines building and fire safety regulations and related compliance and enforcement, with a focus on high-rise residential buildings.
This final report sets out over 50 recommendations for the government as to how to deliver a more robust regulatory system for the future.
